Let's raise a glass to everyone at Wood involved in the front-end engineering design work on a groundbreaking initiative to decarbonise the Scotch whisky industry. Storegga has awarded Wood a new FEED contract. Storegga is an independent developer of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) and hydrogen projects aimed at reducing global greenhouse gas emissions and driving sustainable energy solutions. It is backed by infrastructure and industry investors Macquarie, the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation, Mitsui, Snam, and M&G.
In August 2024, the Scottish Government announced £3.1 million in funding for Speyside Hydrogen in recognition of the socio-economic benefit the project seeks to bring to the region, including circa 100 new jobs associated with a fully built-out Regional Hydrogen Hub. Storegga has matched this investment, bringing the total project funding to well over £6.2 million to date.
The hydrogen project has the potential to produce up to 25 tonnes of electrolytic green hydrogen daily, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 50,000 tonnes a year. With promising possibilities for 50 distilleries in the Moray area, this new project aligns with the Scotch Whisky Association's ambition to achieve carbon neutrality for this iconic Scottish industry by 2040.
Cheers!
