Kent secures detailed engineering design work at first of a kind hydrogen facility

Green light for detailed engineering design work on hydrogen production plant at UK's Stanlow manufacturing hub.

Kent has confirmed the signing of a major contract with ENKA UK Construction Ltd for the detailed engineering of the low carbon hydrogen production plant (HPP1) at the Stanlow in North West England. The project is being developed for Essar Energy Transition (EET) Hydrogen, formerly known as Vertex Hydrogen Ltd.

This pioneering project is at the forefront of the UK’s energy transformation strategy. In October 2024, the UK Government confirmed funding to support HPP1 as the country’s first large-scale low-carbon hydrogen production facility within the Hynet Cluster. Hynet will comprise the infrastructure to produce, transport and store low-carbon hydrogen across North West England and North Wales, along with the infrastructure to capture, transport and store carbon dioxide emissions from industry emitters.  HPP1 will have a production capacity of 350MW and is expected to capture approximately 600,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
