Gas compressors play a vital role in the UK’s national gas transmission system. They raise the pressure of natural gas to ensure more efficient transport via the underground pipe networks that are a key part of the nation’s energy infrastructure.
Gas continues to play a vital role in the UK’s energy mix, providing around 80% of Britain’s homes and businesses with heat and power. Working alongside United Living Group Infrastructure Services and National Gas, BCECA member Kent will lead the engineering design and execution of a new, lower-emission gas turbine-driven compressor, supporting the UK’s energy security and transition goals. The Wormington Compressor Station is a critical node in the National Transmission System (NTS) operated by National Gas, connecting gas import terminals in South Wales with the NTS and South West England.
Kent’s expertise in sustainable infrastructure will help ensure that the facility is future-ready, efficient, aligned with national decarbonisation objectives, and compliant with new emissions legislation, which will take effect in January 2030.
